Nowadays being sustainable is not an option, it's an obligation. The world at the edge of an environmental catastrophe which has been caused by the way we live. What we eat, what we buy and how we get the energy are the main factors that determine how much CO2 reaches the ozone layer and accelerates global warming.
This is why Punta Majahua will be applying different strategies to minimize as much as possible the environment damage, such as:
SOLAR PANELS
Solar panels are one of the most common strategies for obtaining renewable energy. This technology is designed to absorb the sun's rays as a source of energy for generating electricity or heating. Mexico is one of the sunniest countries in the world, therefore it would be a waste to not take advantage of this great quality.
That being said, we will place solar cells on the parking's roofs so besides protecting cars from the sun and rain, it will be use for generating electricity and heat water to all the public spaces in Punta Majahua.
WATER treatment & desalination
Due the necessity of water in Troncones area ,Punta Majahua is going to have a complete system for water treatment. First the water will go through a desalination plant which brings water from the ocean and purifies it so it can be use for the residents , then the dirty water is going to go to the water treatment plant so it can be reused for watering the gardens.
Punta Majahua will donate a fountain of clean water to the community of Majahua town which will be just outside the complex.
crops & organic COMPOST
Punta Majahua will cultivate their own food for consumption of the village, we have designated area for crops. Farm to table is an excellent idea for organic lovers and a great way to spend the day at Punta Majahua by doing some recreational activities and at the same time being green and healthy.
Therefore we'll have a lot of organic waste that will be decomposed and reused as a fertilizer and soil amendment. Compost is rich in nutrients. It will be use in gardens, landscaping and the organic crops. The compost itself is beneficial for the land in many ways, including as a soil conditioner, a fertilizer, addition of vital humus or humic acids, and as a natural pesticide for soil.
design STRATEGIES
The architectural concept of Zozaya Arquitectos for Punta Majahua was the use of curved walls and big open spaces to take advantage of prevailing winds to generate cross ventilation in all spaces. Besides being aesthetically attractive and organic, this design efficients energy consumption by naturally ventilating and lighting all of the spaces.
The materials used for construction are obtained locally, which means they are suitable materials for the environment, we do not require transportation from remote locations and therefore we employ many communities in the area. Palm, bamboo, river stone and concrete are some of the materials we use.
